Working with both Papworth and Addenbrookes Hospital cardiac rehabilitation teams over the past 10 years has given the scheme the necessary experience and credibility to handle a range of post-operative cardiac conditions which can benefit from carefully monitored exercise.
Patients are referred by their GP or Hospital Doctor as part of their post-operative treatment, are assessed using the equipment, and then join a group of people in similar circumstances for the 10 week activity course.
They can use the local Village College gym facilities at subsidised rates and are encouraged to take out membership of the gym longer term. The scheme therefore benefits both the patient and Village College which gets its gym facilities utilized during off-peak times.
