The "TEAM" Project (Leaflet example - inset)
Do you want to encourage your child to lead a healthy lifestyle and improve your own health and fitness at the same time?
Then why not join the exciting TEAM (To Energize And Motivate) Project at Comberton Leisure Centre on Saturday Mornings?

To be eligible for the TEAM course your child must fulfil the following criteria
• Aged 8-11 and, in your opinion, overweight.
• Be able to attend Comberton Leisure Centre on Saturday Mornings from 10-12 on Saturdays for 10 weeks (excluding school holidays). See local leaflets for details

What happens on the TEAM course?

Following an individual fitness assessment for your child you will be advised by fitness experts, sports coaches, dieticians and the child and family health team.
• Activities - Athletics, trampoline, touch-rugby, cricket, netball, tennis, basketball, roller-blading, and much more. Parents also have the option of a workout in the fitness room.
• Workshops - on healthy eating with a dietician, and confidence building with the child and family team leader. This will include sessions on food labelling, food advertising and dealing with stress and bullying.

What will you get out of the course? Results from the last course demonstrated that:-
• Stamina improved and Activity levels went up
• Waist measurements reduced and Body Mass Index went down.
• Time spent watching TV/ video games reduced as children discovered more activities they enjoyed.
• Children made healthier food choices and became more confident.

Here are some of the comments we received at the end of the course:-
Firstly the Parents:-
“The TEAM project has been of great benefit to our child’s self confidence and good for our own fitness.”
“We have reduced the number of high fat/high sugar snacks and changed our breakfast cereal.”
“Encouraged to be more active and we are enjoying it!”

Secondly, and more importantly, what did the children think?
“It was really fun I wish it wasn’t finished.”
“I came because I wanted to have a better fun life.”
“My mum made me go on the project, but I really enjoyed it and want to carry on playing netball. I feel more confident and eat fewer snacks”.
